Amanda and Bryan

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Date: September 16, 2006
Wedding: Saint Brigid Catholic Church

I’m sure mom and dad were just a little happy that this wedding is behind them. If you remember, I shot Ashley’s wedding (Amanda’s sister) just a little more than a month ago. For a mom and a dad, having two daughters getting married within 6 weeks has to be a little tough, not to mention the emotional side of the equation.

I had a great time with Amanda and Bryan when I shot their esession and the wedding was the same.

Thanks again to Huy Cat, my trusty second shooter who came out and got some stellar long shots with his 400mm telephoto lens.

Okay, a word to future brides. If anyone in your party shows up with black leather, diamond-studded 3 inchers with steel heels, you can almost guarantee that I’m going to get a picture of them.

Moving on… :)

This is Amanda. She told me at the rehearsal dinner that if she started acting like a Bridezilla, that I needed to set her straight. Thankfully, I never had to.

And this is Bryan and his best man (below).

And this is Jesus. Actually, this is a depiction of the Sacred Heart that has been in use in the Catholic Church since the 1600’s. Most of you might recognize it because the House of Blues blatantly stole it to use as their commercial logo recently.

Bryan only had one requirement, and that was to get this one shot with his thumbs up. There it is!

Amanda and Bryan are total hams. They were constantly playing jokes and generally just being silly. Bryan is thanking everyone all serious-like for a fine evening just before they make their exit and Amanda has to tell herself to sshhhh…

Thanks for having us and congratulations again!

Katie & Nic

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Date: September 9, 2006
Wedding: Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Reception: The Trolley Barn

Katie grew up here in Atlanta and in a round about way knows my assistant, Christina, which is how this wedding came to me. I should add at this point that Christina rocked with all the great pictures she captured. She just keeps getting better and better.

Back to Katie. She was so great with the scheduling. She knows all her friends and family and coordinated the timing of everything taking into account who was going to be late and by how much. She was dead on and everything flowed smoothly. She got ready at her parents home where she grew up…

It always amazes me what brides sometimes have to go through to get into the average wedding dress. Someone could make a lot of money just putting the dresses on brides with all the clips and buttons and hooks and ties and layers and …

I’ve been trying to think of the right word and I guess it’s “diverse”. The wedding party was diverse. Here’s Katie’s brother who, despite the bad boy image you see below, was a really fun and cool guy. We got pictures of him giving Katie a massage and even tying her shoes after the dress went on. How many brothers are there for their sister like that?

Here’s the rest of Nic’s party. Keep scrolling down and you’ll see why I couldn’t refer to them as the groomsmen — I had to call them “the people in black”. :)

This is Nic who you might remember from the engagements few months back. Katie loves his eyes.

I loved this image the moment I saw it. I instantly saw some stylish indy flik with Cheap Trick playing as background music: “If I go there will be trouble… if I stay it will be double…”. Of course, I’m fairly certain that this was NOT was Nic was thinking, but these are the little things that make my plain little mind go click, click, click.

Here’s one that I loved from my second shooter, Huy Cat. He was having fun playing with the Pocket Wizard remote flash triggers and the ambience at the Trolley Barn.

Angela & Noah

Date: September 8, 2006
Wedding: Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Reception: JW Marriott
Slideshow: ***CLICK HERE*** to see the slideshow

I’ve known Angela for a few years and met Noah when I did their engagement session a couple months back. Shooting weddings for friends is always fun because it seemed like I knew half of the 200-300 people that were there. But first let me start with a shot that’ll make their heart go pitter patter. What you see in the foreground is the top of the tabernacle and the red candle in the background, when lit, tells you that “Jesus is in da house!”

This is Nick, Angela’s brother, helping out…

My assistant, Christina, and I were both totally jazzed by the sleeves on Angela’s dress. Strapless is all the rage these days so it was way cool to see her toting these majestic looking sleeves. Here’s one that Christina captured…

So I’m WAY in the back of the church (that’s where most Catholic churches chain photographers during Mass), communion is starting and I see Angela’s dress reflecting off the floor and I barely got it before the isle’s were flooded with people. It’s always a travesty when a photo like this goes untaken. Averted…

Thanks for having us Angela and Noah!

Gerri & John’s Beach Party (and Wedding too)

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Date: September 2-3, 2006
Location: Richmond Hill, GA (just outside of Savannah)
Slildeshow: ***CLICK HERE*** to see the slideshow (it’s long).

WOW!!!

I’m still tired and it’s almost Wednesday. Okay, there are WAY too many pictures posted below but I just can’t help it.

Matt and I arrived at Gerri’s parents home Saturday afternoon just in time to catch the boat out to a small uninhabited island about a 1/2 hour away by boat ride for Beach Olympics. So 3 minutes out of the drivers seat I’m sitting on a boat with 50 of Gerri and John’s best friends taking in the scenery like this…

Guys will by guys…

And girls will be girls…

And here’s the Bride and Groom!

Here are Gerri and John just moments before the storm…

So we arrive on Sunday (the wedding day) and preparations are well underway… does the scenery get much better than this?

Lisa, one of Gerri’s friends gets kudos for Gerri’s hair and makeup on short notice. So huge props to Lisa… she works at Bold American Catering and rumor has it she might be needing a photographer of her own soon. She’s going to make a really stunning bride! Here she is at work.

Who doesn’t like pictures of the kiddos?

Matt Yung, my second shooter, got some really amazing shots like this one. Being the father of two boys I find this one hilarious on a lot of levels.

Gerri’s brother, Ronnie, told the story of “The Giving Tree” and he had everyone in tears. The bridesmaids were doing their best to keep it together.

Let the party begin…

Thanks again to Matt Yung for the help and I’ll see you soon…

Heading to Savannah…

Friday, September 1st, 2006

I’m heading down to Savannah, GA for a couple days to shoot Gerri and John’s wedding and it’s going to be a blast! I’ll be sure to post some images Monday if I get a chance but get this, 10 bridesmaids, 10 groomsmen AND 10 “kids”, so count ‘em… with Gerri and John that’s 32 people in the bridal party!!! How cool is that!?

I’ll mostly be without connectivity while I am down there but feel free to contact me via my site or you can always reach me at 1-877-BEN-VIGIL and I’ll get back to you asap.

Talk to you soon!
