Baby Rosemary: 9-month Session

There’s nothing that strikes fear and trepidation in the heart of a photographer more than when another photographer asks them to take their pictures. It’s worse when they’re a really good photographer. It’s even more worserer when there are two of them.

So let’s just say that prepping these images for the blog has been an adventure…

I’ve known Chris and Katie Torres of 6 of Four for 4 or 5 years now (say that 3 times in a row!) and in the last year I’ve watched them tread boldly into that crazy thing called parenthood. I really was honored when they asked me to shoot little Rosemary’s 9-month baby session. We met at Grant Park and found some really nice areas to shoot in with some really nice light. Rosemary was a trooper and being later in the day, she was a little more calm and we managed to catch a more, uhm… reflective side of her.

So take a look and tell me what you think!

I loved both of these images. Which do you like better?

I mentioned the nice light…

I managed to grab this as they were prepping little Rosemary. I just love the tenderness of this shot.

Okay, I saw these images and I just. couldn’t. help. myself!

Oh my gosh, I just adore these swing shots. Such a cutie!

Chris and Katie, thank you for trusting me to document this beautiful time in the life of your little angel!

Becky & Todd in Big Canoe

One thing that’s quite nice about wedding photographers in Atlanta is that contrary to what you might think, many of the established photographers are actually quite good friends. We get together to play poker, we refer business to each other and we even help each other out shooting weddings when we’re available. A few weekends ago was one of those times. I was happy to join Jason Spruill, a.k.a. Weddings by Jason, for a beautiful wedding in Big Canoe, GA.

Becky and Todd chose the perfect weekend to get married in Big Canoe. The dogwood trees were simply AMAZING… a week earlier and the trees would be mostly covered in buds and a week later the colors would be totally different. Here’s just a few of the images I captured for Jason on that day…

In case you’re wondering about this cake topper, it has a very special meaning for the couple. They were both on the same little league baseball team as children and they have the team photos to prove it. This was only one of the 5 cakes they had and while in the past I may have wondered why in the world anyone would want a baseball themed cake topper, I now know. And more than that, I absolutely loved it because I know the profound love they share and the depth that comes from knowing someone for as long as they have known each other…

Atlanta Photographer’s Poker Night

One of the little known secrets in Atlanta’s photography world is that despite the fact that we’re all in the same business and sometimes even compete for the same brides, we’re all great friends and enjoy a good game of poker now and again. We used to do this a little more regularly, but it’s been a while since we played last. This time around, Chris Torres needed some baby diaper money so he rounded us all up to try and take us. I came in 2nd and got my money back so at least I could go home and say, “Sweetie, I didn’t lose any money!”

So here’s the scene (L-R):
Chris Torres from 6 of Four (not shown father-to-be and host), Livingston Jackson, Terrell Clark, Jeremy Roth, Mark Adams from LaCour, Patrick Williams, Drew Newman, I’m the one with the camera in my hand.

No Shows (no link love here):
Zack Arias, Charlie McLarty, Matt Yung, Hassel Weems, Ross Knight, Scott Chester, Marc Climie, Adam Linke, Chris Rank, Andrew Niesen, Jerrod Brown, David Christensen

This one is beautiful, so poetic and full of emotion. The money shot. The caption: “You’ll do better next time honey.”

Jeremy and Mel (above) have a baby on order so these poker nights are crucial for him before his social life goes on lock-down in a month or two. He was last to leave last year. This year…. uh, first. As a father of three, I know the routine. :)

Can you believe that Patrick ditched Bible Study for this…

The Kinda Christmas Party

This year I managed to attend exactly one Christmas party. This has been an extremely busy season for me (probably the busiest so far) and it was a nice little foray into peace for an evening. Unfortunately Maria wasn’t able to go with me and that was a HUGE bummer — she missed an evening with very kind friends.

Andrew and Rachel from LaCour and Chris and Katie from 6 of Four Creations planned a little holiday gathering around the winter solstice at Andrew and Rachel’s place. They’ve already blogged about it so I won’t go into details but Rachel and Katie went all out with the decor and theme for the evening.

Here’s the lay of the land from (I think) Andrew.

Katie and Rachel worked so hard and they had NO IDEA how much I love fresh green beans. I could’ve died when I saw this…

Chris Torres doing what he does best…

Below: That’s Chris over there in the corner in my shot!

Am I the only one that finds humor in this shot of Mark and Erin Adams?

Not sure who took these last two images…
